Staircase and Railing Painting in Milton, Georgetown, Guelph & Kitchener
A staircase gets walked on, grabbed and leaned against every day, and it is the first thing a guest sees when they step inside. It is also where a rushed paint job shows fastest: scuffed risers, chipped spindles, a hand-height smudge along the wall. We take our time on stairs.

Stairwells are slow work, and that is fine
Stairs mean ladders, awkward angles and a lot of cutting in. A tall open stairwell we painted needed scaffolding so we could reach the upper walls safely instead of stretching off a ladder. If your stairwell is two storeys, tell us when we come to look. We plan for the setup in the estimate so it never turns into a surprise charge later.
Railings, spindles and newel posts
Handrails and newel posts take the most contact, so they get cleaned and sanded before anything goes on. Whether you keep the wood tone or paint it, the finish has to survive hands and rings. A dark stained rail against fresh white walls is a combination we have done on recent stair projects, and we are just as happy to refresh black iron spindles or paint wood ones white. Tell us the look you want and we will tell you honestly what it takes to get there.
Panelled walls have a lot of edges
Wainscoting and panelled stair walls look wonderful and they are tedious to paint, because every panel has its own edges and corners. We cut each one in by hand and caulk the joints before painting so the lines read clean from the top of the stairs and from the bottom.
Your floors and runners stay clean
Carpeted treads, runners and hardwood landings are covered before we start, and the area around the staircase is masked off. Stairs are the route everyone in the house uses, so we also keep a clear path through the work and tidy as we go.
Choosing colour in a stairwell
Stairwells are often lit by one window or one fixture, which changes how a colour reads from the top landing to the bottom step. We will bring wall samples and help you look at them at the times of day you actually use the stairs. Colour consultation is part of every quote, using Benjamin Moore, Sherwin-Williams and Dulux.

Staircases & railings FAQ
Do you paint stair railings and spindles?
Yes. Railings, newel posts, spindles, stringers and risers are all part of the work. Each piece is cleaned and sanded first so the finish stands up to daily use.
Can you paint a stained wood railing white, or keep it dark?
We can do either. Changing stained wood to a painted finish takes more prep than refreshing what is already there, so we look at the wood in person and tell you which route makes sense.
Do you paint the walls and panelling along the stairs too?
Yes, stairwell walls, ceilings, wainscoting and trim are usually done as one project so the whole stairwell matches. Panelled walls are cut in by hand.
What if my stairwell is very tall?
Tall and open stairwells are done with scaffolding or the right access equipment rather than a stretched ladder. Mention the height when you call and we will account for it in your fixed price.
Which areas do you serve for stair painting?
Milton, Georgetown, Guelph and Kitchener, with Bolton for larger jobs. Interior work runs year round.
