Drywall repair and painting

Drywall Patching and Painting in Guelph, Georgetown, Milton & Kitchener

Holes, cracks, nail pops and old wallpaper damage can make a good room feel worn out. The patch is only half the job. If it is not feathered flat and primed, it shows through the paint every time the light hits it.

A repair that disappears

Small holes and nail pops are filled, sanded and primed. Larger repairs need more time, because drywall compound has to dry and cure before sanding. We tell you that up front so you know it is not a rush job. The stairwell and room pictured below show patched and primed walls ready for paint.

Why primer matters over a patch

Fresh patches absorb paint differently from the wall around them. Without primer, you get a dull flat spot, which is called flashing, that no amount of top coat will hide. Primer evens that out so the finished wall looks like one surface.

Old walls, plaster and wallpaper

Older homes often have plaster, layers of paint or wallpaper that was glued on hard. We look at what is on the wall and tell you what it will take, before we quote. If removal damages the surface, that is repaired and smoothed before painting.

Repairs inside a repaint

Most of our drywall work happens as part of a larger repaint, since you are already going to paint. We list the repairs in your fixed-price estimate so the final wall is smooth, not just coloured.

Drywall repair FAQ

Do you patch drywall before painting?

Yes. Nail pops, cracks, anchor holes and larger repairs are filled, sanded and primed before any colour goes on.

Can you fix large holes?

Yes. Larger repairs take longer because the compound has to dry and cure, and we tell you that up front.

Will the patches show once painted?

They should not. Patches are feathered flat and primed so the paint finishes evenly. If the light is harsh, a skim coat can make a big difference, and we can advise you.

Do you remove wallpaper?

Wallpaper removal is part of what we do. Any damage to the wall is repaired before painting.

Is drywall repair priced separately?

Repairs are listed in the same fixed-price estimate as the painting, so you see one number.
