Exterior wood, cleaned, brightened and sealed

Weathered or bare wood is cleaned and brightened before it is sealed, so the stain goes into clean wood instead of sitting on top of old grime. The finish seals the wood against sun and rain.

Stairs, furniture and mantels

These are the pieces people see and touch every day, so we treat them with care. A staircase, a dining table and a fireplace mantel are all different, and the right approach depends on the wood, what is on it now and how you use it. We'll look at it with you, tell you honestly what we think will give you a result you'll be happy with, and go from there.

Custom staining

If you have something in mind that doesn't fit a neat category, that's fine. Bring us the idea, a photo, or a sample of the look you're after, and we'll work out together whether stain is the right answer and what it would take.

Recent projects

Our photos below are mostly exterior work. Recent projects include a full deck and gazebo pavilion in Georgetown, a cedar porch ceiling and gate stained warm amber in Glen Williams, a backyard privacy fence restained in Glen Williams, and a cedar deck and pergola stained and sealed in Halton Hills. Another pergola was finished in a clear natural look.

Choosing a finish

The finish can be a rich colour, a warm amber or a clear natural look that lets the grain show, depending on the wood and the look you want.

Booking a season

Exterior staining is weather dependent and scheduled around the season, so book ahead for spring and summer. Interior pieces like stairs, furniture and mantels aren't held up by the weather in the same way, so ask us about timing. Every estimate is free and gives one fixed number, written down before we start.

Staining FAQ

What kinds of wood do you stain?

Outdoors, mostly cedar and pressure-treated wood, cleaned, brightened and sealed against sun and rain. For stairs, furniture and mantels, we look at the piece with you first, since the right approach depends on the wood and how it's used.

Do you stain things other than decks and fences?

Yes. We also stain exterior floors, stairs, furniture and mantels, and we're happy to talk about custom staining of just about anything. Tell us what you have in mind and we'll give you an honest answer on the best way to approach it.

Do you stain fences and pergolas as well as decks?

Yes. Recent jobs include a backyard privacy fence, a cedar porch ceiling and gate, a pergola, and a full deck and gazebo pavilion.

Can you restain a fence that already has stain on it?

Yes. A recent Glen Williams job restained an existing backyard privacy fence. We look at the wood in person before giving a fixed price.

Do you work in Glen Williams?

Yes. Glen Williams is part of Halton Hills, the same area as our Georgetown base, and several of the projects above were completed there.
