Fireplace and Feature Wall Painting in Guelph, Milton & Georgetown

A fireplace or one bold wall is the part of a room where colour does the most work. It is also where mistakes are most visible. We help you pick the right colour and finish, then prepare the surface properly so it lasts.

Painting a brick fireplace

Brick is porous and rough, so it needs cleaning, the right primer and enough coats to fill the texture. The first photo below shows a brick fireplace with its dark finish going on and the hearth still in progress. A painted brick fireplace is a big change, so we talk through the colour before we start, and we will tell you plainly that painting brick is not easy to reverse.

Working around stone, tile and metal

Many fireplaces mix materials. The stone fireplace room below was repainted around a natural stone chimney and a dark insert, with the stone masked off cleanly so only the walls changed. Fireplace openings and metal parts need to be protected rather than painted over, and we plan around that.

Dark walls and bold colour

Deep colours can make a room feel richer, and they ask more of the painter. Walls have to be smooth, edges have to be straight and the coverage has to be even, because a dark finish shows every flaw. The bathrooms and powder room below went dark on the walls and panelling, and they look sharp because the prep was done before the colour.

Choosing the colour

A feature wall should suit the room, not just the trend. We bring samples, look at them in your light and tell you honestly if we think a colour will fight with your floors or fixtures. It is your home, and the final decision is yours.

Fireplaces & feature walls FAQ

Can you paint a brick fireplace?

Yes. Brick is cleaned and primed, then painted in as many coats as it takes to cover the texture. It is a big change and hard to undo, so we make sure you are happy with the colour first.

Do you paint stone fireplaces?

We usually paint the walls around stone and mask the stone carefully. If you are thinking about painting the stone itself, ask us first and we will give you an honest view.

Can you do dark walls?

Yes. Dark colours need smooth walls and sharp edges, so prep matters even more. We recommend samples on the actual wall before committing.

Is a feature wall worth doing?

If one wall is already the focus of the room, such as behind a bed, a fireplace or a tub, a bold colour there can add a lot. We will tell you if we think it will not work.

Which areas do you serve?

Georgetown, Guelph, Milton and Kitchener, with Bolton for larger jobs. Interior work runs year round.
