Bathrooms and vanities

Bathroom and Vanity Painting in Georgetown, Milton, Guelph & Kitchener

Bathrooms are small, humid and used every day, which makes them harder to paint than they look. A dated vanity or tired walls can drag down the whole room. Often the fix is paint, not a gut renovation.

Painting for moisture and steam

Bathroom paint has to cope with steam and splashes, so the surface needs to be clean, dry and properly primed before colour goes on. If there is peeling, mould staining or a fan that does not really vent, we will point it out because paint will not solve it on its own.

Refinishing a vanity

The ensuite vanity pictured below started as dark cherry-toned wood and was refinished in a warm off white. The finished one looks like a different piece of furniture, even though it sits in the same bathroom with the same countertop. Refinishing usually costs less than replacing a vanity. We cover the work area and protect the countertop and plumbing, then clean, sand, prime and finish the cabinet. If you want the larger picture on cabinet work, see our cabinet painting page.

Walls, trim and ceilings, the finishing touches

Tile and glass need careful masking, and trim around windows and doors needs to be filled and caulked. The bathrooms we have done recently range from bright and light to deep dark walls with white trim. Both only work when the edges are crisp.

Powder rooms and small spaces

A powder room is a good place to be bold. Dark panelled walls, a good mirror and one nice light fixture, like the one pictured below, make a room people remember. Small rooms are quick to repaint, which makes it an easy way to start.

Bathrooms & vanities FAQ

Can you refinish a bathroom vanity instead of replacing it?

Yes, if the cabinet is solid. A refinished vanity usually costs less than a replacement, and the before and after above shows what is possible.

What paint do you use in bathrooms?

We use paint suited to moisture and cleaning. The right product depends on the room and the surface, and we talk it through at the estimate.

Do you paint bathroom ceilings?

Yes, and in a bathroom that is usually worth doing, since steam can leave ceilings looking tired first.

Can you paint dark walls in a small bathroom?

Yes. A dark colour can look great in a small room, but it needs smooth walls and sharp lines. We use samples first.

How much does vanity refinishing cost?

It depends on the size of the vanity and its material. We give one fixed price after seeing it in person.
